Anyone else have an excessive spitter upper? He hasn't always been like this. I'd say it started about a month ago. He went from spitting up 2-3 times a week to 2-3 times a day. At his 3 month well baby visit last week I talked to his doctor about it, thinking maybe it's reflux, but the doc said he wasn't sure. He prescribed Zantac to try, which I've only given my son once. He didn't like it at all! It smells strong so I can't imagine how it feels going down. It doesn't seem like all the spitting up bothers him and he still has good diaper output, but the quantity and frequency kinda bothers me.

amazing how quick the medical community is to hand out drugs. My boy spits up a few times a day. I asked his doc about it and she said not to worry about it unless he stops gaining weight, is getting upset by it a lot or if it's projectile. Many infants are still developing their swallowing reflexes etc. My sis, who has 2 kids, and my mom who had 4, said the same thing. Both my sis' kids spit up a lot and it never harmed them. Now mind you, this isnt vomiting - just spitting up.

See, it would have been nice if my doctor had looked at his weight gain or asked about his diaper output. It was just "Well, I dunno if it's reflux. It could be that or it could be the fact that little ones insides aren't fully developed at that age. Blah blah blah."

I spoke to a lactation consultant about this same thing.

She said as long as Sophia is eating well, gaining weight and peeing and pooping, to just relax and go with the flow.

Sophia doesn't seem the least bit disturbed by the spitting up, so I'm trying to be more calm about it myself

Yeah, I wasn't so alarmed about it that I was going to make an emergency doctor visit because like I said his diaper output has always been great. I guess if our little ones aren't bothered by it then we shouldn't be. :)

Zantac doesn't help the spitting up it just makes it less acidic. Spit up is completely normal, but like the other posters said keep an eye on weight, etc ... also blood in the spit up or the diaper.

I knew spitting up some was normal, but I wasn't thinking it was normal to do it several times a day! Now I know it is because a lot of moms have told me their little ones do it too.

Yeah, even projectile spitting up. My nephew was a projectiler, and my little one for a little while was. She always hit the wall and doors behind me ... it's funny now that I don't have to clean it up. :)

Good Luck!

It's only been projectile once, thankfully. Unfortunately it was all over my face and down my shirt. :(

I'm glad to know it's normal and there's not something wrong with my little man!
